VISITORS - Carefully follow the steps below to ensure a smooth entrance to the Lab facilities. When you arrive, please keep in mind cell phones and laptops are allowed in unclassified areas only and photography and recordings are forbidden in and around the facility.

     

1 - VISIT REQUEST PROCESS

The Information Directorate is a secure facility. A Visit Request is required in order to gain access. Please plan ahead and allow at least 48 hours for processing.

  • For access to our facilities (Building 3, 106, etc.) please request that your Facility Security Officer (FSO) submit a collateral visit request via JPAS using SMO Code: LK1MFSD15.
  • If your FSO does not have access to JPAS, fax the below RRS Form 31 to unclassified fax number: 315-330-3378. Please do not send by email.
  • For any questions regarding building access, please call the Rome Research Site Security Administrative Office, phone: 315-330-2916, DSN 587-2916.

2 - SPECIAL ACCESS

If you require SCIF access during your visit your employer or government sponsor will need to submit an additional request on your behalf.

  • If you require SCIF access during your visit you will need to complete an additional visit request. SSO Rome will only accept visitor requests from a government agency or military component sponsoring security office. Your government employer or sponsor must submit a VR via JPAS using the SMO code SSO RL (with a space). If your agency does not use JPAS, please send a message via DSSCS using the plain language address (PLA): SSO RL or transfer the the following information via fax, or DoD SAFE file transferOn letterhead indicate the date of visit, visitor(s) name, social security number, citizenship, access, purpose of visit, and Lab point of contact. Because PII information is being transmitted, all SCI visits are considered Controlled Unclassified Information and should be marked as such.

3 - TRAVEL & DIRECTIONS

Syracuse NY Hancock International Airport (SYR) is the closest airport to the Lab (approximately 50 miles; a 1-hour drive). You may also choose to fly into Albany International Airport (ALB), however it is a bit farther at 105 miles; a 1-hour and 40-minute drive.

  • All visitors, government and contractor, must have a picture ID available upon gate entrance, and need to report to Building 3 upon arrival for check-in and badging - 525 Brooks Road, Rome. Your visiting sponsor will need to complete a gate announcement for you prior to your arrival and entrance into the visitor's parking area.
  • Green Card holders must present Green Card as well as a second form of ID.

4 - AMENITIES

There are several choices for lodging in the immediate area; some are only a minute or two from the Lab. We also have a gym that is available to government employees.

  • There are a number of lodging and dining options within a short drive of the Lab.
  • We also have an on-site fitness area open to military and government civilians that provides a range of activities including cardio, free weights, an indoor track, rock climbing, basketball, racquetball, and more.
