Aeronautics Resources
Abstracts from aerospace journals, conferences, NASA technical reports, 1962 to date.
These are NATO or RTO aerospace reports.
AIAA covers the design, development, testing, construction, and operation of air and space vehicles. We have access to all AIAA journals from 1988+. We own all papers from 1963-2000 on microfiche, and from 1988 to date online. Older journal issues are in the Library.
Covers the activities of individuals and institutions in air and space, encompassing social, political, economic, scientific, and technological aspects of the aerospace industry from the 19th Century to around 1985.
The RDT&E budget Data Web site provides funding information on budget cycles (POM, BES, and PBR) by Budget Activity from FY 1990 to the present and by Appropriation from FY1962. You will need a DTIC login and password. Once you are in, the budget data is under the Financial Tab at the top.
A historical description of Air Force resources, organizations, and activities, including general historical cost data.

Indexes significant articles from military, DoD and aeronautical periodicals, most of which are not indexed elsewhere. Citations from 1987 to present.
DoD's pavements research facility for roadways, permanent airfields, contingency airfields, and railroads. Formerly called APMIAC--Airfields, Pavements, and Mobility IAC. *There may be a fee for some services.
Data on over 1,500 airfoils.
Provides all Airworthiness Directives (ADs) issued by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and Canada that are still in effect - some date back to the 1940's.

FAA Regulations; JAA Information; ICAO; UK-CAA CAPs; and IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. Also see Federal Aviation Library (Free).
An exception to this list as it is NOT a database, but this is THE most read news magazine covering aerospace. For personnel on AFMC Bases Only.
The library subscribes to several CSA databases that provide access to major areas of research, including aerospace and materials science. Most are detailed elsewhere on this page. The most important are: Aerospace & High Technology Database; Ceramic Abstracts / World Ceramics Abstracts; Engineered Materials Abstracts; and METADEX (Metals Abstracts).
https://www.dtic.mil/portal/site/dticol/ - DTIC Private DOAC version*
THE source for technical reports written by DoD and their contractors. Many newer reports and articles are full-text PDFs, including reports by AFRL, AGARD, JANNAF, WADC, etc. AFIT and NPS theses are also included (SEE - DoD Theses via DTIC above). The library owns over a half million reports on microfiche as "AD" numbered documents. Note that most of these are NOT listed in our catalog.
DTIC's "Private" version indexes both public and limited reports, so it is much larger. *DoD and DoD contractors can register at http://www.dtic.mil
Maintains a comprehensive list of flight deck automation human factors issues, and compiles data and other evidence related to those issues, such as accidents, incident studies, experiments, surveys and observational studies.
Joint Service Specification Guides (JSSG)
Many are in
DTIC. Others are in I.H.S.
NACA was NASA's predecessor and its purpose was to research problems of flight within and outside the earth's atmosphere. The full-text of about 95% of the reports from 1917-1958 are freely available at the above site. We also own thousands of these in paper, many of which are not in our catalog. Many are available as DTIC AD numbered reports too.
- Public (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)
Public reports only.* (See below.) Indexes reports from various NASA centers. We own thousands of these in microfiche and in paper, many of which are not in our catalog. We also can order many as PDF files or in paper. NTIS and Aerospace databases also index most of these reports. *See Librarian for other NASA information.
- Private (National Aeronautics and Space Administration)
Much more complete than the public versions. Also, many more full-text reports!
Passworded - Contact NASA about registration (click above).
A list of NASA publications that have been put online in either full-text or hypertext format: also included in this list are some frequently requested non-NASA documents
- The public source of U.S. scientific, technical, ASC, Engineering, and business-related public information gathered from hundreds of government agencies and other organizations.
A specialized index focusing on research in joint and multinational operations, military history and naval science, operational warfare, and operations other than war. Produced by the Joint Forces Staff College Library.
Science Citation Index Expanded (part of the "Web of Science"). Provides access to current and retrospective cited references from the world's leading science and technical journals. AFRL coverage 1990 to present. Prepaid version available on AFIT computers in library - 1988 to present.
It is one of "the world's largest collection of science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information," and the library connects you to millions of scholarly articles available from 1995+.
