Engineering Resources
ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)
Includes: Journal of Applied Mechanics; Journal of Biomechanical Engineering; Journal of Electronic Packaging; Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power; Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology; Journal of Fluids Engineering; Journal of Heat Transfer; Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering; Journal of Tribology; Journal of Turbomachinery; and Journal of Vibration and Acoustics. Older issues are in the Library.
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts
The library subscribes to several CSA databases that provide access to major areas of research, including aerospace and materials science. Most are detailed elsewhere on this page. The most important are: Aerospace & High Technology Database; Ceramic Abstracts / World Ceramics Abstracts; Engineered Materials Abstracts; and METADEX (Metals Abstracts).
Compendex (Engineering Index)
THE most comprehensive engineering resource. Covers aerospace engineering; electronics and communications engineering; engineering management; mechanical engineering; nuclear technology; computers and data processing; and applied physics.
Engineering References
Knovel interactive Reference books including: Developing and Managing Engineering Procedures; Engineering Documentation Control Handbook; Engineering Measurements - Methods and Intrinsic Errors; Engineering Problem Solving; *Handbook of Mathematical Functions with Formulas, Graphs, and Mathematical Tables; Juran's Quality Handbook; Manufacturing Engineer's Reference Book; and Reliability, Maintainability and Risk.
Engineering Village
THE most comprehensive engineering resource. Covers aerospace engineering; electronics and communications engineering; engineering management; mechanical engineering; nuclear technology; computers and data processing; and applied physics. Made up of Compendex and Inspec databases.
Fluid Engineering Abstracts (FLUIDEX)
Librarians access (only) via Dialog - $$A bibliographic database of the global literature in the use, control, and management of fluids for engineering applications. Many of these citations also included in INSPEC or Engineering Index.
INSPEC
THE leading index on physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computing and information technology, as well as manufacturing and production engineering. Check with the Library for passwords to the $$ version.
Mechanics & Mechanical Engineering
Knovel interactive Reference books including: Air Engines, *ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, Electromechanical Design Handbook, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Turbomachinery, Harris' Shock and Vibration Handbook, Machinery's Handbook, Marks' Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, Mechanics of Materials vol. 1, vol. 2, Principles of Engineering Mechanics, Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain, Standard Handbook of Machine Design, Strength of Materials and Structures, and Tribology Handbook.
National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) databases
Provides access to over 80 NIST scientific and technical databases with a major emphasis on measurement methodology and the basic technology underlying standardization. Here are links to some of the main NIST database topics: Analytical Chemistry ~ Atomic and Molecular Physics ~ Biometrics ~ Biotechnology ~ Chemical and Crystal Structure ~ Chemical Kinetics ~ Chemistry ~ Environmental Data ~ Fluids ~ Materials Properties ~ Mathematical Databases, Software and Tools ~ Physics ~ Surface Data ~ Thermophysical & Thermochemical Each of these database sets is also described elsewhere on this page. Some databases may not be free.
National Technical Information Service (NTIS)
- The public source of U.S. scientific, technical, ASC, Engineering, and business-related public information gathered from hundreds of government agencies and other organizations. This is free, but has less coverage than the Dialog $$ version. Check with the Library for passwords to the $$ version.
Science Citation Index
Science Citation Index Expanded (part of the "Web of Science"). Provides access to current and retrospective cited references from the world's leading science and technical journals. AFRL coverage 1990 to present. Prepaid version available on AFIT computers in library - 1988 to present.
Science Direct
It is one of "the world's largest collection of science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information," and the library connects you to millions of scholarly articles available from 1995+. Includes all journals published by Elsevier, Academic Press, Pergamon, North-Holland and others.
Scitation
We have access to most of the journals published by the American Institute of Physics; American Physical Society; Acoustical Society of America; American Society of Mechanical Engineers; American Vacuum Society; International Centre for Diffraction Data; Laser Institute of America; and MAIK (the Russian Academy of Sciences). Many older issues are in the Library.
SCIRUS
Searches across 167 million science-specific Web pages including full-text journal sources like: BioMed Central, MEDLINE, Science Direct (Elsevier, Academic Press, etc.), Scitation (AIP, APS, ASME, SPIE, etc.), and the Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics, as well as NASA reports, and various e-print and patent databases. Connects to millions of full-text subscription and free files.
