Identifies and validates best practices, and encourages industry, government, and academia to share the information. Funded by the Office of Naval Research, but the information covers all services. Includes many online reports, including the "classic" Best Practices: How to Avoid Surprises in the World's Most Complicated Technical Process (NAVSO P-6071), 1986.

CAGE Codes (Commercial and Government Entity Codes)
CAGE Codes are five position codes that identify companies doing, or wishing to do, business with the Federal Government. They can be searched on BINCS (Business Identification Number Cross-reference System).
Center for Contemporary Conflict
Conducts research on current and emerging security issues and conveys its findings to U.S. and Allied policy-makers and military forces. Launched by the Naval Postgraduate School's Department of National Security Affairs. Includes information and papers on homeland defense, terrorism and counter-terrorism, regional instability, strategic nuclear policy, and Weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Independent Research and Development (IR&D) database

Collects and maintains independent research and development summaries from DoD contractors. National Technical Information Service (NTIS)

RAND Reports
RAND = Research AND Development, and is a nonprofit "think tank" that helps improve U.S. policy and decision-making. The site includes publications in the areas of environment, energy, international policy, national security, transportation, and science and technology, and more. Many RAND reports are indexed in DTIC and available as "AD" numbered reports or as cataloged items in the library.

Recent Advances in Manufacturing (RAM) is a database of bibliographic information for manufacturing and related areas. It covers items in well over 500 niche and mainstream journals and magazines, and aslo details books, videos and conference proceedings.

SAE's Global Mobility Database (Society of Automotive Engineers)
Librarians access (only) via STN - $$Indexes worldwide literature on all vehicle types, including those for land, sea, air, and space. Has excellent coverage of aerodynamics, aircraft, electric power, engines, tires, UAVs, etc. - usually cited as SAE Paper numbers. The library owns SAE Papers from 1972 thru 1990 in microfiche and they are free to copy. Those we don't own we can order via Interlibrary Loan. For SAE standards - SEE - I.H.S. Standards
SCAMPI (Staff College Automated Military Periodical Index)
A specialized index focusing on research in joint and multinational operations, military history and naval science, operational warfare, and operations other than war. Produced by the Joint Forces Staff College Library.

TEMS (Total Electronic Migration System)

Transportation Research Information Services (TRIS)
Covers the field of transportation: aviation, highways, transit, railroads, maritime, etc., in disciplines such as design and construction, environmental issues, materials, operations, and safety and human factors. Also SEE SAE Global Mobility.
Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center (WSTIAC)
Collects and makes available information on conventional and directed energy weapon systems technology and related guidance, intelligence gathering systems, training, etc. Maintains a comprehensive bibliographic database covering the spectrum of weapon systems technology issues. *IACs are DoD sponsored but charge for some services.
