DR. ANDREW D. "ANDY" WILLIAMS

Dr. Andrew Williams serves as the Acting Director of AFRL’s Space Warfare Directorate (AFRL/RJ) with responsibility for an annual budget of $662M DAF funding. As the Acting Director of AFRL/RJ, Dr. Williams guides a team of 1,500 military, contractors and civilians in the discovery, development and delivery of space, rocket propulsion, and strategic deterrence capabilities to the hands of US Air Force and US Space Force operators.

Prior to his selection as the Acting Director of the Space Warfare Directorate, Dr. Williams served as the Deputy Technology Executive Officer (TEO) for Space, directing AFRL Space S&T implementation to support USSF requirements while ensuring alignment with DAF Strategic guidance.

Dr. Williams entered federal civilian service in 2003 as an AFRL Palace Acquire Intern. In 2006, he served as the Thermal Systems Lead and launched a new $35M research program in spacecraft thermal control. In 2009, he assumed the role as Deputy PM for the Integrated Structural Systems (ISS) program. In 2013, he was selected as ISS PM to direct its $140M research portfolio. In November 2021, Dr. Williams was promoted to the rank of Senior Scientific Technical Manager (SSTM).
