AFRL/RYA - Layered Sensing Exploitation Division

RYA -- Layered Sensing Exploitation Division Conducts basic research, exploratory and advanced development to provide efficient sensing exploitation for Air Force air, space, and C2 systems. Develops technology for target and threat detection, location, track, and identification using RF and EO sensors and other information sources. Develops performance driven sensing technology to determine sensor design goals and sensor deployment for layered sensing solutions in challenging environments, and projects layered sensing performance in relevant scenarios.

RYAA -- Layered Sensing Performance Characterization Branch Develops, maintains, and communicates to Air Force leadership our understanding of the state-of-the-art and art-of-the-possible in layered sensor exploitation performance for Air Force air, space, cyber, and C2 needs. Conducts exploratory and advanced development research to further layered sensor exploitation performance assessment. Leads and conducts experiments to independently assess performance and capture sensor and target phenomenology and scenario knowledge. Projects component-level performance into layered sensing system performance for relevant scenarios.

RYAP -- Radio Frequency Exploitation Branch Conducts basic research, exploratory and advanced development to provide sensor exploitation algorithms for multi-mode radar frequency and multi-sensor applications. Focuses on fundamental advancements in detection, salient feature extraction, identification, and tracking phenomena. Develops physics-based models and analytical techniques to explore innovative methods for information exploitation. Spearheads advancement of technical understanding, product development, simulation tools, and performance characterization of key technologies for evolving warfighter needs.

RYAR -- Sensor Exploitation Applications Branch Conducts exploratory and advanced development programs to apply and integrate multi-sensor and multi-platform sensor exploitation for advanced target and threat detection, registration, tracking, sensor management, and identification to meet Air Force air, space and C2 needs. Develops and integrates layered sensing exploitation technologies to support the warfighter in both traditional and nontraditional warfare environments.

RYAT -- Electro-Optic Exploitation Branch Conducts basic research and exploratory sensor exploitation algorithm development to provide sensor exploitation algorithms for multi-mode electro-optical sensing. Develops sensor, target, and threat feature and signature understanding through physics modeling to drive sensing approaches. Develops sensor signal processing to match sensing products to exploitation requirements. Develops algorithms for target and threat detection, geolocation, tracking, and identification as well as cross-mode sensor management and registration.
