USAFSAM FCI/MFS Responsibilities
  • Provides Initial Flying Class appointment slots to AFROTC for completion of IFCI Pilot and Initial GBO/RPA exams. 
  • Completes 100% of examinations to provide to HQ AFRS/RSG for final certification.
 
HQ AFROTC Responsibilities
  • Provide a POC to coordinate scheduling appointments in WINGS with ROTC detachments.
  • Ensure detachments are thoroughly briefed on reporting instructions and IFC scheduling.
  • Coordinate with detachments to ensure pre-examination documents are sent to USAFSAM.
  • Provide detachments with travel orders for cadet to attend IFC examination at USAFSAM.
  • Liaison between detachments and USAFSAM personnel for questions and/or concerns.
 
Detachment Responsibilities
  • Ensure cadets are scheduled for IFC appointment in TEAMS as determined by HQ AFROTC.
  • Arrange mode of transportation to and from Wright Patterson AFB, OH (commercial air or POV).
  • Ensure orders are completed for cadets in WINGS and they have a valid ID to get on base.
  • Provide all required medical documents to USAFSAM at least 30 days before the appointment.
  • Ensure cadets are informed of Corneal Refractive Surgery (PRK/LASIK) pre/post-examination procedures and the required documents that must be sent to USAFSAM prior to the IFC exam.
  • Contact Lens Policy:  Must have soft contact lenses removed for 30 days (90 days for hard).
  • Must be fasting for 12 hours and well hydrated on the first day of the scheduled appointment.
  • Pre-Examination Medical History (DD Form 2807-1).
  • Personal Data Form.
  • Privacy Act Statement/Medical Release.
  • DODMERB/Prior Exam.
  • Tattoo-Scar Form.

Cadet Responsibilities
 
  • Take all information/directions presented by DET NCOs seriously. Failure to follow directions may affect examination and pilot categorization.
  • Inform detachment of any medical changes prior to appointment.
 
FCI Transportation
Currently, we do not have detachment support providing transportation from the airport. Cadets will have to take either a Taxi/Uber from the airport to Billeting on Wright Patterson AFB.

Cadets will get an email/phone call the Friday before their scheduled appointment with instructions on where to go Monday morning.

Detachments Do's and Don't
 
  • Do adhere to all messages that pertain to IFCI/MFS procedures from HQ AFROTC.
  • Do familiarize yourself with the IFCI/MFS procedures and policies.
  • Don't wait until the last minute to set an appointment for your cadet.
  • Don't call or email USAFSAM--go through HQ AFROTC regarding scheduling of your Cadet.
 
FAQs
Q: How do I schedule an IFCI/MFS appointments?
A: In WINGS, go to Training-Assign-IFC Assignments or contact Cadet Actions for help.

Q: When should a cadet complete the pre-screening process?
A: Upon appointment date notification—send documents to USAFSAM 30 days prior to exam date.

Q: How long are the appointments?
A: 2-4 days on average (orders should be cut for 5 days—can always make changes).

Q: My cadet had CRS (LASIK/PRK) surgery. Is there additional documents, we send to USAFSAM?
A: Yes, follow the directions on the CRS checklist.

Q: My cadet wears contacts. Do they need to take them out prior to their appt?
A: Yes. Cadets must remove their contacts 30 days prior for soft contacts and 90 days prior for hard contacts.

Q: What is appropriate attire for my cadet's physical and what does the cadet bring to the appointment?
A: AF PT gear is appropriate attire for the physical; refer to cadet instruction sheet for further guidance.
