New foam aids firefighters Published March 12, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Jensen Stidham 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- The 20th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters trained using a new compressed air foam system here, March 10, 2014. Approximately 10 firefighter attended a four hour introduction class to learn about CAF. Following the the class, the firefighters were apart of hands-on training to practice using the CAF system during a controlled live fire. Along with the new system the Shaw Fire Department recieved a new fire truck which holds three tanks that include water, air, and foam. After running through the fire hose the mixture them passes through a foam nozzle which creates millions of bubbles that coat the object being sprayed, making it lighter and more effective than water.
