AFRL establishes one-stop shop for partnerships
From left: Dr. Nick Glavin, Dr. Ajit Roy and Dr. Michael McConney stand with a nanomaterial deposition chamber at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Sept. 24, 2021. The trio are increasing the availability of nano materials by building stronger ties with industry, government and academia in India. The Air Force Research Laboratory stood up a new Strategic Partnering Directorate, or AFRL/SP, to better achieve the Department of the Air Force’s mission and vision of collaborative science and technology partnerships. A spectrogram from the Broad Band Receiver on AFRL’s Demonstration and Science Experiments (DSX) spacecraft showing “boomerang” signals on Oct. 5, 2020. Colors show radio wave power with transmissions from DSX and return echo signals (boomerangs) indicated. It shows a seven-second time period from left to right and radio frequency increasing from bottom to top. This is one of dozens of boomerangs seen by DSX, which are being analyzed to understand how very low frequency (VLF) radio waves behave in near-Earth space. (Courtesy Image/Stanford University)
