ABOUT THE Public Health & Preventive Medicine Department (PH)

The 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW) U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) Public Health and Preventive Medicine Department (PH) consists of 208 active duty, civilian, and contractor professions organized into four divisions: Public Health Education (PHD), Epidemiology Consult Service (PHR), Epidemiology Laboratory (PHE), and Applied Technology and Genomics (PHT). As of 1 October 2022, PHR, PHE, and PHT are under the Authority, Direction, and Control of the Defense Health Agency and are part of “Defense Centers for Public Health – Dayton” (DCPH-D). PHD remains within USAFSAM. The department develops and implements USAF Public Health education and training, provides epidemiology studies and analyses, houses the Air Force’s sole public health reference laboratory, and provides services in aerospace and operational medicine enterprise (AOME) applied technology, precision medicine, and genomic sequencing.

MISSION: Promoting global health through education, training, consultation, research, epidemiological field support and diagnostic laboratory testing.

VISION: Recognized experts in public health and clinical/surveillance laboratory testing, supporting the Department of Defense’s and Air Force Medical Service’s drive towards the healthiest and highest performing segment of the U.S. population by 2025.
