Since 1913, USAFSAM has provided aerospace medicine education and training to over 5,000 students annually in 110 courses that range from introductory level training to post-graduate fellowships. U.S. and Partner Nation officers, enlisted, and government-sponsored civilian personnel are all eligible students. Located in the American heartland at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH, USAFSAM is near to other distinguished institutions, such as the Air Force Institute of Technology, the Defense Institute of Security Assistance Management, and Wright State University.
In 1923 USAFSAM recognized the value of common practice on a global scale and welcomed its first International Military Student. Since then, USAFSAM has been a cornerstone in Aerospace Medicine Operations for the U.S. and its Partner Nations. Our dedication to increased international healthcare understanding and cooperation in support of regional stability and COCOM objectives shows in our alumni. Numerous graduates of the flagship course, Advanced Aerospace Medicine for International Medical Officers (AAMIMO), have gone on to become their nation’s equivalent to the Air Force Surgeon General. Partnerships build on the common foundation of high quality patient care and Flight Surgeon Operations have continued to bear fruit long past the actual training dates.
USAFSAM faculty and staff provide direct operational support to the USAF every day. Many on staff provide clinical/patient support or are involved in clinical trials or studies. As a result of the diverse and unique educational and operational environment, every USAFSAM student learns much more than just the didactics in every course.
